Business Technology Education

The Business Technology Department at TTI currently offers three courses for students to choose from that include: Administrative Assistant, Accounting Operations, and Medical Administrative Specialist. Students have the opportunity to  test and become certified in Microsoft  Word, Access, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint 2007. Inquire with Student Services regarding fees and testing schedules.

 ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT COURSE CONTENT

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers in the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order rea­soning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to the use of technology to develop communications skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills; the performance of office procedures tasks; the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications; research of job opportunities; and the production of high quality employment portfolios and job-seeking documents. 

Program Structure 

This program is a planned sequence of instruction consisting of the Business Technology Education Core and three additional occupational completion points.  Secondary or postsecondary students who have previously completed the Business Technology Education Core will not have to repeat the core.  A student who completes the applicable competencies at any occupational completion point may either continue with the training program or exit as an occupational completer. When offered at the post secondary level, this program is comprised of courses which have been assigned course numbers in the SCNS (Statewide Course Numbering System) in accordance with Section 1007.24 (1), F.S.  Career and Technical credit shall be awarded to the student on a transcript in accordance with Section 1001.44 (3)(b), F.S.

Laboratory activities are an integral part of this program.  These activities include instruction in the use of safety procedures, tools, equipment, materials, and processes related to these occupations.

Typically, a student may expect to complete this program in 1050 hours.  Students who do not meet the minimum grade levels for this program (Reading: 10.0, Math: 10.0, Language: 10.0) will be required to enroll in the Vocational Preparatory  Instruction Lab for remediation in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.

According to TTI's most current annual report (2009-2010 data) the students in this program had a 69% completion rate and 42% total placement rate. For information relating to costs of fees and equipment please click here.

 

MEDICAL ADMINISTRATIVE SPECIALIST COURSE CONTENT

This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers as an Information Technology Assistant, Front Desk Specialist, Medical Office Technologist, and Medical Administrative Specialist in the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order rea­soning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Business, Management, and Administration career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to the use of technology to develop communication skills, higher level thinking skills, and decision making skills; medical terminology; the performance of office procedures specific to the medical environment; transcription of medical documents from machine dictation; the production of quality work in an efficient manner using advanced features of business software applications; research of job opportunities; and the production of high quality employment portfolios and job-seeking documents.
