This program is designed to prepare students for employment as construction carpenters and to provide supplement training for person previously or currently employed in the  occupation. After successfully completing this program, the student will be able to demonstrate shop and occupational safety skills, basic knowledge of the construction industry, knowledge of basic mathematics for carpentry, read blueprints, utilize hand tools, identify characteristics of lumber, perform site preparation, set up and use a transit and builder’s level, demonstrate knowledge of form construction, cut and install framing members for a floor, frame a roof, install and brace roof trusses, install exterior covering and trim, install cabinets and shelving, demonstrate knowledge of timber construction, install decking and sheathing, demonstrate employability skills and an understanding of entrepreneurship. Typically, a student may expect to complete this program in 1200 hours. A secondary student will complete it in 1050 hours.  Students who do not meet the minimum grade levels for this program (Reading: 9.0, Math: 9.0, Language: 9.0) will be required to enroll in the Vocational Preparatory Instruction Center in order to receive a Certificate of Completion.
